There were a lot of comments on the previous posts about sledgehammer swinging. I’ll have more on that in the future, answering many of your great questions. But for now you can see me in action swinging around this heavy sledgehammer.
If you don’t happen to have a sledgehammer as big as this (and I realize most people don’t), not worry as you can get most of the same benefits with a lighter hammer. The fastest way to get started is just to go out and do it. This videos shows two different swings you can do but if you want more be sure to check out the Hammers and Maces DVD. There you’ll find almost a hundred exercises you can do.
I want to thank everyone who has supported us in picking up the re-releases of the DVD’s. And there are many more to come. In fact we’ll have another one coming this Wednesday. Until then, start swinging those hammers.
God bless,
Bud Jeffries

Thanks Bud,
I have not seen that first technique you used. I have only used the second one. What advantage does this first one have over the second one?
Any advantage in making the handle thicker? I have a 15kg (33 pound) hammer with a metal shaft it is fairly thick as it is. Though yours looks thicker still.
You mention a lighter hammer is just as good. I started out with a 7 pound hammer to groove a good motion, went to my 10 kg hammer and now moved to the 15 kg one. When I move back to the 7 pound one, the power I have scares me lol. Personally I want to keep moving the weight up.
Thanks again
Bud,
This is not really the right place but I wanted to pass something on to you. In one of your podcasts; I think with John Brookfield, you were talking about the mental side of things. I am very interested in this as well. As a boy I discovered the novel Moby Dick, by Herman Melville; and found two passages that touched me deeply, and touch me still. I thought you and your readers might be interested.
From Chapter 11
We felt very nice and snug, the more so since it was so chilly out of doors; indeed out of bed-clothes too, seeing that there was no fire in the room. The more so, I say, because truly to enjoy bodily warmth, some small part of you must be cold, for there is no quality in this world that is not what it is merely by contrast. Nothing exists in itself. If you flatter yourself that you are all over comfortable, and have been so a long time, then you cannot be said to be comfortable any more. But if, like Queequeg and me in the bed, the tip of your nose or the crown of your head be slightly chilled, why then, indeed, in the general consciousness you feel most delightfully and unmistakably warm. For this reason a sleeping apartment should never be furnished with a fire, which is one of the luxurious discomforts of the rich. For the height of this sort of deliciousness is to have nothing but the blanket between you and your snugness and the cold of the outer air. Then there you lie like the one warm spark in the heart of an arctic crystal.
Chapter 37
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Over unsounded gorges, through the rifled hearts of mountains, under torrents’ beds, unerringly I rush! Naught’s an obstacle, naught’s an angle to the iron way!
