“Build the Toughness and Strength of a Lumberjack”

loghug2 LogsDear Fellow Strongman,

One of the opening scenes of the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, “Commando,” has always epitomized to me the ruggedness of lifting or carrying a huge log.

It’s a goofball movie that I saw as a kid, but this particular scene always stuck with me. Arnold in his still big, post-Conan days, is living atop a mountain with his young daughter. He goes up the mountain to get firewood presumably, cuts this HUGE log, well at least it looked huge to me at the time, folds up his shirt, sticks it on his shoulder, puts the log on his shoulder and proceeds to walk back down the mountain.

Now we all know that ol’ Arnie didn’t do this, it was a movie stunt. Real rugged men who’ve cut timber and built muscle that was beyond that of normal humans have done it since the beginning of civilization. Old school pre-machine based lumberjacks were some of the baddest hombres around. I met one recently at an exhibition I did for a little church in north Florida.

He didn’t lift weights, but he grew up working in the old-style pulpwood. That basically means that he lifted log after log after log, loading them onto trucks. This was one big, tough looking dude, with some of the thickest forearms and hands I’ve seen. And I’ve seen some big strong guys and not easily impressed. He was obviously a powerful guy. Real strength built in the old tradition of super-heavy, manual labor.

You see lifting logs gives you that kind of strength…

…A strength that we miss by lifting purely barbells or any other type of training. It’s something we miss in modern training and part of the reason we put together this log-lifting course.

Over 50 exercises in all. FIFTY exercises showing you how to lift all kinds of logs. Work every muscle in the body and be as tough as a nail you might drive into one of them.

logsquat2 LogsLog lifting has come about as a unique style in modern strongman competition. So what we’ve tried to do here is combine the old time lifting style of rugged workmen with the education that I got growing up on a small farm with the exercises of the classic pre-steroid era and the modern use of the log in strongman competition.

So this course will teach you how to lift logs that were cut specially to be lifted like the logs you clean and press in a strongmen competition (and how we made our logs for that). There’s the every style to clean and press logs plus the most effective ways for competition. But you’ll also get exercises with natural logs or pieces of telephone pole without special handholds. If you wanted to learn how to lift logs for strongman competition then this is definitely a great course for you, but we wanted to make it more than just that.

We talk not only about how to use the log, but about different types of logs to use. What size logs are appropriate for what things. What size handles to put on a log. And much more.

Here are a few of the exercises that we put on this tape.

  • Log continental and press
  • The power curl
  • The hybrid continental
  • The log row
  • Log Front Squat
  • Log at chest, squat and twist
  • Log Olympic press
  • The Bent Shrug
  • No handled clean and press
  • The Highland Caber Pull
  • The Stienborn Lift
  • The Goose Step
  • The Snatch Grip Deadlift
  • Flips
  • Bear Hug
  • Shouldering
  • Stiff legged Side bend
  • Partial overhead Presses
  • Tilt Press
  • Full Contact Twist

log41 LogsAs you can see, this doesn’t just teach you how to clean and press. It goes into every aspect of its training. How to overload the core. Build the legs, the back and the shoulders. Even dragging the log like the old timers did.

And Real, Heavy lifting. Not just showing you how to do it, but actually doing the exercises with real weight. How about these?

  • Pressing a 300lb log
  • Push pressing a 340lb log
  • Cleaning a 400lb log
  • Continental to the belt with a 450lb log
  • Deadlifting a 500lb log
  • Shouldering a 400lb giant log

Log lifting is no joke. It built the old time workmen into phenomenal physical specimens and that’s the reason that it’s commonly in strongmen contests all over the world today. Lifting, pressing and generally training with those thick tree trunks with their odd center of gravity and almost resistive nature builds huge, muscular men.

It’ll put slabs of muscle on you. It’ll give you another tool in your arsenal so that where ever you are, be it at a strongman contest or in the middle of nowhere, you can always be getting stronger and better.

You can be as big strong and tough as the men we grew up learning about. You just have to get the knowledge and put in the work. Well we put the knowledge in one convenient package right here for you. You supply the guts, the burning, desire, and the free flowing sweat.

God Bless,
Bud Jeffries

P.S. This is not some Hollywood production, just real hard lifting shown outdoors. In fact, this was shot back when we used VHS tapes. The quality of the video may not be the best, but I assure you that the information is. If you need a glitzy production then this DVD isn’t for you, and you should go back to the gym in your spandex and get on your hip adductor machine. But if you feel this is the right fit for you, go for it.
