Not Resolutions… But Resoluteness Part 3
Build Your Resolve!
The state of resoluteness I believe requires organizing your mind and then your life. It isn’t the frantic drop everything and do “this” notion. That won’t last. It’s the careful consideration of the things that are really important to you and the idea that no matter what I’ll continually emphasize those things.
Most people get a resolution to get in shape and then work out real hard for three weeks. Then the first time they have a conflict or “don’t feel like it,” it kills their resolution or at least works it badly enough to start its death. It’s exactly that frantic effort when you don’t have the tools to sustain it that kills it.
When you are resolute about it you know that there will be problems and hang ups along the way. Each will be a building block to get you to a place of lifetime skill. It’s not about making every workout; it’s about the unflinching resolve that builds over time that says I will never stop working out. It’s not freaking over missing a session because this is a lifetime thing. It’s part of me. It’s what I do. I don’t have to have crazed hurry and worry about it. I can enjoy it, because no matter what problems I have to solve to get there – I and it will always be together.
This applies out of fitness to whatever you are truly passionate about. If your resolution was to spend more time with you family, it usually doesn’t mean, “quit my job and sell the house so we can live in a camper and be together.” It’s about long term priority and choices to be with them. If it’s improving your mind or spirit, eating healthy, exercise or making more money – It’s all about a lifetime of getting over the inevitable setbacks which cannot keep you from them if you refuse to stop. A man is never beaten until he refuses to get up. For those things you truly care about be resolute, always get up.
You want to develop this kind of never-give-up spirit and body in your training? Then I recommend you get started with Twisted Conditioning.
God bless,
Bud Jeffries
