Adapt, Improvise and Overcome

I believe that’s one of the mottos of the marine corp who recently had their 234th birthday.  Since I just brought that up – congratulations to all of you.  All the marines I’ve known have been good guys and do their corp proud.  Even bigger than that – God bless all the soldiers of the United States, whatever service they’re in and where ever they are – thank you for doing your job and keeping us all safe.

I brought up the motto because it applies to absolutely everything in life and especially training.  The real point behind it is never quit.  You can always find a way to keep going.   Keep plugging toward your goal and get what you want.

In the last year I had two pretty rowdy injuries.  I strained my knee while running which is pretty bad for me considering full squats have been the biggest part of my training for basically forever.

Deadlifting Heavy Weights

So I can’t full squat heavy right now – maybe not ever.  But I found that I can still partial squat heavy and found other ways to work my legs.  I also began to concentrate more on the deadlift as my biggest lower body exercise basically accomplishing the same goal as the full squat.  Total body strength, muscular and hormonal stimulation.

I found a few things to work my legs without over stressing my knee.  One of the main ones is sled pulling/dragging which in and of itself is an incredible workout.  You do have to let injuries heal, but you don’t have to stop.

Six months or so ago I was grappling with a very good professional fighter, Reggie Pina, who trains at the school where I strength coach, Champions MMA, Lakeland, FL.  Reggie in fact recently won the Atlas Fighting Promotions title belt at Middleweight in Biloxi, Mississippi.

During grappling we rolled in a freak way and it damaged the bicep tendon in my shoulder.  It’s taken a long time to get even close to healing.  When it immediately happened I did allow it sufficient time.  That’s important.  But did I stop training just because something is out of whack?  No!

I had to adjust two of my major exercises.  Instead of always doing one-arm dumbbell presses I did them occasionally with my right arm, but mostly worked seated military presses in the rack starting at nose height.  That range of motion built strength and didn’t hurt.  Keep the muscle, work through the injury.

This applies across everything that you do.  You can’t run?  Bike.  You can’t snatch?  Swing.  You can’t squat?  Deadlift.  There’s always an answer.  It applies in all other areas of life too.

Last year when we had business problems with fulfillment I was ready to trash the whole thing.  A couple of times in the past few years we’ve had the same hard times that everybody has had with the economy, but you just don’t quit – you find a way to make it work.  Hence the new set up with Logan Christopher as publisher.  Hence the re-introduction of products that will teach you all these principles.  Teach you how to get world-class strong and enduring and find the right set up so you can work around any problems that you have and never quit.

We’re hard at work bringing all my products back to the market though it will take some time. In the mean time you can get started with my best selling training books. And next week we’ll have a BIG special announcement. This is where the real fun begins.

God bless,
Bud Jeffries
